162 Mahatma Ghandi

WINNER: SMITH & WINFIELD, "162 MAHATMA GHANDI (POINT ROAD)"

162 Point Road is a heritage listed building and is of historical significance to the citizens of Durban. The one portion was the old Durban Police Station constructed in 1902/1903 and the adjacent portion was the Old Point Fire Station constructed shortly thereafter.

For the owners, who are proud to be part of Durban’s heritage, it was exceedingly important to retain the historical features of the building.

For them it was important to use like-minded contractors to ensure that the desired result was achieved, “We were fortunate that the two main contractors being Smith & Winfield and Mr Red Van Zyle of Woodrow Joinery were highly skilled in this type of work. Their enthusiasm for the project is reflected in the outcome.”
