HIGHLY COMMENDED:AVENG GRINAKER-LTA, GOLDFIELDS MALL
The Goldfields Mall entailed the demolition of an existing shopping centre and the construction of a new single level shopping centre of 38000 m², with 6800 m² of paved walkways and external parking of 45000m². Due to the large footprint of the centre, extensive use of mobile plant equipment proved necessary. In addition to three telly handlers used for the movement of materials around the site, three mobile cranes were also required for pouring of columns, ring beams and plant room slabs. The external enclosures and finishes were achieved using brickwork and rough plaster. The internal finishes include ripple volume atriums with glazed skylights complete with ship-lap cladding.
