HIGHLY COMMENDED: AVENG GRINAKER-LTA ED VILLAGE
The project was initiated as a result of a need to contribute towards Enterprise Development in the greater Richards Bay area. NHP Billiton set aside a budget to fund the project. All the funds had to be spent and no additional funding was available in case of a cost overrun. The cost/budget management on site was therefore very critical.
The project consisted of a Training Centre, an Administration Building, 4 Ablution Blocks, External Parking, Access Roads, Refuse area, Nursery area and a block of 4 Workshops which will be used as an “incubator” for selected trainees. This is to assist them with starting their own business ventures.
The project has been entered as a 4 star Green Star designed project, with a future sewerage package plant (waiting approval from Dept. of Agriculture), the plumbing installation is based on a recycling programme, maximising the use of rainwater as well as grey water from the future sewerage package plant.
