Winner: Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN, TSAM – Quantum Extensions

The project involved the extension of the existing Quantum production facility in two separate phases during a four-month contract period.
The operations included major concrete demolitions of the existing concrete dock leveler retainer walls, ramps and external concrete hardstands. Extensive structural steel modifications led the critical path in order to remove 50% of the column supports to enable the tie-in of new rafters to the existing, which included strengthened column and girder supports.

All operations took place in a live trading environment and extensive dust proof hoarding was required, together with strict co-ordination of TSAM Plant production operations. Phase 1 was required to be handed over before Phase 2 could commence, leading to extremely challenging programme constraints.
The unique challenges from TSAM and the project requirements dictated a very demanding and onerous programme to meet deadlines.

Considering an overall four-month contract, we needed to complete Phase 1 within two months in order to handover the dock levellers for trading, prior to commencing Phase 2 and achieving the deadline of 30th March.
