February was a busy month for the Association that saw several member engagements take place via the MS Teams platform. These meetings included presentations by respected industry professionals who are renowned in their respective fields. It was also pleasing to note that with the use of online platforms, we have seen increased participation from members based in the far corners of KZN province which is most welcomed.
At a recent member forum meeting, the following hot topics were discussed:
- Launch of Construction Alliance South Africa (CASA)
- Court Ruling - Preferential Procurement Regulations of 2017
- Site Disruptions
- Department of Education – School Projects
Bilaal Dawood of Bilaal Dawood Attorneys presented on the Court Ruling pertaining to Preferential Procurement Regulations of 2017 and what the implications for industry may be. Click here to read the article.
The Association also hosted an online member meeting at which Peter Barnard of Cox Yeats Attorneys delivered a presentation titled “When to exercise your Lien. ” The presentation addressed a number of questions relating to the two types of liens that exist, the Debtor/Creditor lien and the Improvement Lien. It also answered questions around common law vs contractual stipulations and the presentation can be downloaded here.
Neil Enslin, Health and Safety Manager provided members with an overview of the amended Asbestos Regulations and encouraged members to contact him should they require further information on the topic.
We take the opportunity to thank On-Tap in Pietermaritzburg for assisting us with the distribution of uvex glasses. uvex South Africa had donated 10, 000 units of pheos eko safety glasses for distribution to qualifying members. ON-Tap PMB served as a collection point for qualifying members based in the Midlands and we acknowledge and appreciate their role in this initiative.
