The Association presents the following exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Technician:

Title of Position: Maintenance Technician
Classification: Permanent

PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The primary function of the Maintenance Technician is to operate and maintain the property and equipment of the Association, perform basic building maintenance repairs, perform banking and postal duties as well as the duty of a driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Maintenance Technician you will be responsible to operate, repair and maintain the Association’s property and equipment, ensure that basic building maintenance repairs are carried out, thereby creating a safe working environment for the Association’s employees, tenants and visitors, doing the banking and postal duties as well as performing the duty of a driver.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for building maintenance and repairs.
• Roof cleaning and full bore maintenance.
• Operation and maintenance of generator including gas monitoring and change over.
• Operation and maintenance of the grey water system.
• Responsible for the replacement of light bulbs, fittings and repairs.
• Assist with movement of equipment and furniture, etc.
• Garden maintenance – irrigation system.
• Work safely and ensure safety equipment is used at all times.
• Assist when called on to work outside of your normal Maintenance Technician duties.
• Report any unsafe working conditions to your superior for the necessary investigation and subsequent action.
• Assist from time to time with ground maintenance.
• Do routine electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, carpentry, painting, paving and tiling tasks, amongst others.
• Maintain all tools and equipment and ensure it is in good working condition.
• Perform emergency repairs as instructed.
• Assist with remodelling, including office rearrangement.
• Ensure preventative maintenance work is carried out.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of supplies and materials.
• Install and inspect new equipment and furniture when required.
• Perform the Associations banking and postal duties.
• Source equipment and supplies from Suppliers.
• Pick – up and delivery services as required.
• Any other duties relating to the Department or the Association as a whole, which may reasonably be expected of an employee within this position.
• Travel to other Association premises to conduct any work required.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Relevant certificate.
• Fluent in English.
• Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills as required.
• Related experience may substitute for the required trade experience if there is a demonstrated ability, skill, and knowledge to perform tasks.
• Sound knowledge and skills required with the safe utilization of tools, equipment and materials.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety code regulations.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, drywalling, tiling, painting and plastering.
• Ability to act quickly in emergencies.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, prints etc.
• Ability to use arithmetic computations to measure, calculate quantities and costs etc.
• Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgement.
• Ability to apply sound judgement, solve problems and act with integrity.
• Ability to use the Associations resources effectively and efficiently.
• Must be in good physical health necessary to perform manual labour tasks and lift/move heavy objects if required.
• Interpersonal skills required to work courteously and effectively.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Adhere to completing tasks as per deadline.
• Must have a valid code EC; EC1 or EB driver’s licence.
• Fluency in IsiZulu, would be an added advantage.
